Now bring the two short ends together, right sides facing, and pin. Sew from the top folded edge down to the bottom raw edge, leaving a 10 cm gap in the lining seam for turning. Press the seam open. You now have a tube.
Flatten the tube so the seam sits centred at the back. Pin along the bottom raw edge and sew across, creating a flat base. To give the cover a round bottom that actually sits around the pot, cut a small square from each bottom corner: a 2.5 cm square works well for a 12 cm pot. Match the cut corner seams together, pin, and sew straight across. Trim the seam allowances at the corners, turn the cover right side out through the gap in the lining, and slipstitch or machine sew the gap closed. Push the lining down inside the outer, press the top edge, and you're done with the construction.

A simple ribbon tie around the top third of the cover adds structure and a handmade feel without extra sewing. Cut a 60 cm length of ribbon or twine, wrap it around the outside of the cover, and tie a bow at the front.
